Christmas is just round the corner! With the school holidays finally here, it’s also time to get the whole family in the mood for Christmas by kickstarting those family traditions.
Whether it is heading down to Orchard Road to see what spectacular lights and decorations they have put up this year or to mall-hop just to find the best Christmas deals, every family has their own traditions during the year-end festive season.
So once again, it is that time of year to get in the Christmas spirit by embracing these family traditions that the kids will remember all the way into adulthood.
1. Putting up the Christmas decorations
Play some of your favourite Christmas carols, round up the kids, and start putting up your Christmas decorations as a family.
There are so many things to do, and so much fun to have in this season that you don’t know where to start, right?
Why don’t you get your kids to make their own decorations this year to change things up a little? This will encourage them to bring out their creative side while getting them excited for Christmas.
Kids who are given the chance to be creative and whose parents give them opportunities to reach their creative potential, tend to be more successful in life.
Plus, it’s a really fun, hands on activity for the whole family! After all, there’s nothing quite as fulfilling as quality time spent with the family together, right?
2. Enjoy a family fun day/night out at KidZania Singapore!
Another great way to bond as a family this festive season, and possibly create a new tradition, is to head to KidZania Singapore on 9 December, Saturday, for their Christmas Family Fun Night @ KidZania Singapore!
For ONE night only, it is the perfect chance for the whole family to dress up as Santa’s elves or better still, the entire cast of Frozen! The more creative your costume, the higher the chance of winning special prizes during the party!

3. Write a letter to Santa
Have you watched that viral Spanish video featuring kids who write out their wishes for Christmas? They are asked to write a letter to the Three Kings (the Spanish equivalent of Santa) and then a second letter to their parents.
It’s heartwarming and also a good idea for parents to get their kids in the Christmas spirit.
Get your kids to write a letter to “Santa” and to you, too. It’s a great way to encourage them to do a little writing exercise that is both fun and educational.
Getting the kids to write out a list of what they want will not be met with much resistance. In fact, the kids will be scrambling to do it!
Once they’re done, have them read the letters out to you over a quiet evening. That will make for a precious bonding and learning experience as you can guide them through any errors.
Then, be sure to keep those letters and give them back to your kids once they’ve grown up. It would make for such lovely mementos.
So, which Christmas traditions will your family be starting this year?
