The celebrity couple celebrated Qi Di Di, their baby son’s 100th day on 30th July 2017. With prior experience organising a 100-day baby celebration for their baby girl Qi, they are better prepared this time.

Through an intimate bash with 60 people of family and close friends, the venue was decked with balloons, chicken-shaped cookies, a two-tiered cake topped with a crown and lots of love. The couple shows us that the 100-day celebrations don’t have to be an over the top affair.

In Joanne Peh’s own words: “I can’t imagine what it’s like to organise a full-month celebration because at the one-month mark, it just felt too soon,” as shared on her Facebook page.

Cheryl Wee, actress, heiress and lifestyle entrepreneur and her husband, Roy Fong, threw an adventure-themed party for 100-day old cutie baby Marc.

It happened on 26th July 2018 at the Grand Hyatt with close to 400 guests!

According to the 31-year-old youthful mum, it is a “practicality thing” for them to hold a 100-day celebration instead of a full month party.

In fact, they did hold a full month party for the immediate family but to protect the baby’s health, and “for his immunity to be stronger”, they decided to wait till the 100th day!

Vincent Ng and Mei Ling

Just not too recently, wushu icon and former Channel 8 action star Vincent Ng and his wife, Mei Ling celebrated Zander, their son’s 100th day.

It was an elaborate affair at JW Marriott South Beach Hotel’s Grand Ballroom with a whopping 300 guests.

The party “tripled up as a belated birthday bash” for the 43-year-old and “a belated wedding celebration for him and his wife”. It was splendid, enough said.

They even had a traditional hair cutting ceremony for Zander that involved shaving the baby’s head; and his foetal hair is bunched into a Chinese calligraphy brush, which is known as ‘tai mao bi’.

Pros and Cons of 100 Days Baby Celebration

We see a wave of new-age parents with an entirely different outlook.

Most young parents now tend to be less rigid when it comes to adhering to tradition. It doesn’t have to elaborate or need to have all the checkboxes ticked. But if you want to incorporate the traditional elements, why not?

In the end, it all boils down to the genuine thought put behind it and the coming together of your loved ones.

Either way, here are some pros and cons that you might like to consider on whether to stick to a full month celebration or 100 days baby celebration.

Pros: why 100 days baby celebration VS 30 days party

1) More time to regain your health and make that awesome party a reality!

You will get more time to nurse yourself back into health and get back into shape; most new mums require six to eight weeks to fully recover. Especially for breastfeeding mums, the first few weeks after your birth is a crucial period — you are still learning the ways of breastfeeding.

New mums take note! Here are some potential health issues that you could face after giving birth:

  • Breastfeeding difficulties
  • Breast engorgement or infections
  • Pain from a vaginal or C-section wound
  • Sleep deprivation
  • Postnatal blues
  • Urinary incontinence and piles

2. A more balanced state of mind

There are fewer things to worry about as compared to in the initial first-month stage. You can relax a little and take a little bit more time to settle down and think of how you would like to proceed for your little one’s milestone.

3. Time, time, time!

Of course, that means having more time to plan your ideal party to celebrate your baby’s milestone, of course! Think adventure, eco, Disney — the list is endless. Gather your friends and family to help organise so that it is less taxing for you.

4. Increased baby immunity

In three months, your baby will be more developed and less fragile. They would have built up stronger immunity than if the party was held at 30 days. Sometimes it can be difficult to say no to others touching or holding your baby.

5. More smiles and action!

Definitely, your baby will be more interactive as compared to when he is just a month old.

Cons: something to ponder about

  • Will your older relatives find it difficult to relate that there will not be a full month party? They could hold deep-rooted beliefs to the tradition. Will they be receptive to a 100 days baby celebration?
  • A 100 days party is a seemingly “bigger” affair, it might be more of a headache thinking of what gift to give.
