COVID-19: 1-year-old Singaporean Among 70 New Confirmed Cases of Coronavirus, Total Now at 802

A 1-year-old Singaporean female is among the 70 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 infection in Singapore, the Ministry of Health (MOH) announced on Saturday (28 March). The total number of cases here has now surpassed the 800 mark with 802 confirmed cases.

The infant, an imported case, has a travel history in the United Kingdom and France. She tested positive for the virus on Friday (27 March) and is currently being treated at the National University Hospital.

Of the total new cases announced, 41 are imported cases and 29 are local cases with no travel history abroad.

15 of the local cases are linked to clusters or previous cases, while 14 are currently unlinked. The total number of locally transmitted unlinked cases are now at 67. Contact tracing is ongoing, the MOH said.

Two new cases of COVID-19 infection in Singapore linked to school clusters

A 38-year-old male is a case linked to the PCF Sparkletots preschool at Fengshan cluster. He has a recent travel history to Malaysia. He was confirmed to have contracted the virus on Friday and is now warded in isolation at KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital.

There are now 26 of the confirmed cases linked to a cluster. Six of the cases are staff at the preschool, and 10 are family members of Case 601.

Separately, a 36-year-old South Africa national is the 8th confirmed case linked to the Dover Court International School. Seven are staff at the school, and one is a contact of Case 618.

New cluster found at SingPost Centre in Eunos

Two of the new cases confirmed today are linked to the new cluster at SingPost Centre in Eunos. This brings the total number of cases linked to the cluster to five.

Both cases, a 25-year-old China national and a 36-year-old Malaysia National. are local linked.

Update on previous cases of COVID-19 infection in Singapore

15 more patients have recovered from COVID-19 and have been discharged from hospital, bringing the total number of discharged patients in Singapore to 198.

Of the 420 confirmed cases who are still in hospital, most are stable or improving, while 19 are in critical condition in the intensive care unit.

A total of 182 patients who are clinically well but tested positive for COVID-19 have been moved to be isolated and treated at Concord International Hospital, Mount Elizabeth Hospital, Gleneagles Hospital and the Community Isolation Facility at D’Resort NTUC.

Two patients have died in Singapore from complications due to COVID-19.

Defer Non-essential Trips to Malls says Gov’t

Singapore authorities on Saturday urged the public via a WhatsApp message to stay at home and defer non-essential trips to malls.

The announcement comes a day after large crowds were seen outside malls, as mall operators implemented stricter safe-distancing measures to contain the spread of COVID-19.

The Government also called on foreign workers and foreign domestic workers to stay in on their rest days and avoid gathering in public spaces and reminded everyone to stay at least 1m away from each other, and to avoid gathering in public spaces and visiting crowded areas. 

At 11.59pm on Thursday, stiffer regulations such as jail terms and fines for individuals, event organisers and owners of premises who flout safe-distancing measures, as stipulated by the COVID-19 multi-ministry taskforce, came into effect.
