Reimagine a Wonderland of Flora and Fauna With a New Immersive AR Experience at ArtScience Museum

Reimagine a Wonderland of Flora and Fauna With a New Immersive AR Experience at ArtScience Museum

Running for a limited time, the Asian premiere of Deep Field inspires co-creation of new environments and reconnection with nature

Visitors to ArtScience Museum can let their creativity bloom at Deep Field, an augmented reality (AR) and sonic art experience that is making its debut from 16 to 26 November 2023.

Developed by celebrated Australian artists and creative technologists Tin Nguyen and Edward Cutting, who form the duo Tin&Ed, this collaborative and educational workshop brings individuals together to envision and co-create a virtual ecosystem of fantastical plants with others around the world.

Starting with a guided tour around ArtScience Museum, participants can draw inspiration from the surrounding artworks and environment to create their own unique plants. Following that, they can bring their creations to life through Deep Field by sketching their designs using iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, and experimenting with vibrant colours, shapes and textures.

The participants’ creations will be added to a global database depicting a wondrous new ecosystem cultivated in real time with artworks of flora contributed by other co-creators throughout the world.

This hidden botanical world can only be unveiled through the wonder of AR, and by using the LiDAR Scanner on iPad Pro, participants can witness their artworks blossom into stunning 3D plant structures trailing across the floors, walls, and ceilings of the Museum.

Additionally, the UV mode technology found in Deep Field allows users to explore their newly reimagined environment from the perspective of a pollinator.

As part of this experience, participants will be immersed in a multichannel soundscape of forgotten and extinct species by acclaimed audio naturalist Martyn Stewart, that enhances the spectacular sights and sounds of this ever-evolving natural world.

Through this hour-long guided experience, participants will be able to feel a sense of wonder and curiosity towards nature, gaining not only new perspectives on the environment but also reflecting on the strong connections they share with other living organisms as well as the responsibility they have in protecting the planet.

“As a museum dedicated to art, technology and creativity, ArtScience Museum is thrilled that our visitors will be amongst the first in Asia to experience Deep Field by Tin&Ed, an augmented reality project at the forefront of digital innovation.

This interactive educational journey, powered by advanced technology on iPad Pro, is the latest in a series of projects we have presented which use augmented reality and virtual reality to foster a deeper connection with the natural world.

Deep Field invites visitors to dream up new botanical creations and plant these virtual blooms within the ArtScience Museum.

It uses cutting-edge technology and art to ask us to think differently about the planet, reminding us of the role we all play in caring for our precious and fragile natural environment,” said Honor Harger, Vice-President of ArtScience Museum at Marina Bay Sands.

After previously exhibiting at the Art Gallery of New South Wales in Sydney and the Getty Center in Los Angeles, the Deep Field experience is currently on tour in Europe before making its first Asia stop at ArtScience Museum in Singapore.

Deep Field is free for admission with registration via the link here. This experience is recommended for participants ages 8 and up.
