Action for AIDS Singapore: A Beacon of Hope in the Fight Against HIV/AIDS

35 years of Action for AIDS Singapore! Continue the fight against HIV/AIDS and work towards an AIDS-free future.

In the three and a half decades since its inception, Action for AIDS Singapore (AfA) has been a steadfast force in the battle against HIV/AIDS in Singapore. Founded in 1988, the organisation has played a pivotal role in shaping the narrative around HIV/AIDS, striving to create a future where the virus no longer poses a threat to the community.

Strategic Blueprint for an HIV/AIDS-Free Singapore by 2030

In November 2019, AfA unveiled its visionary “Community Blueprint Towards Ending HIV and AIDS in Singapore by 2030.” This strategic roadmap meticulously identifies prevailing issues and service gaps and outlines the necessary efforts and investments required to terminate HIV transmission and AIDS by the end of the decade.

Despite the setbacks presented by the COVID-19 pandemic, AfA’s programs and services have demonstrated resilience and are steadily regaining momentum. The organisation is now poised for a strategic expansion of outreach initiatives, testing endeavours, and partnerships with various stakeholders, reaffirming its commitment to a robust response in the fight against HIV/AIDS.

Prof Roy Chan: Leading the Charge Against Stigma

On AfA’s 35th Anniversary and World AIDS Day 2023, Prof Roy Chan, President of AfA, emphasises the organisation’s dedication to eradicating stigma, improving healthcare access, and supporting individuals living with HIV. Under the theme “Let the Communities Lead,” World AIDS Day 2023 underscores the pivotal role of communities in spearheading progress against HIV.

World AIDS Day 2023: Join the Movement Towards an AIDS-Free Singapore

AfA invites everyone to join its World AIDS Day activities, contributing to the journey towards an AIDS-free Singapore.

1. Educational Campaign

Throughout December, AfA launches an extensive month-long educational campaign leveraging social media and community outreach to debunk myths, reduce stigma, and encourage safe behaviours.

2. Free HIV Tests

Through Anonymous Testing and Mobile Testing Services, AfA emphasises the vital importance of knowing one’s HIV status, promoting early detection and treatment.

3. Singapore HIV Congress

On December 2, AfA participates in the Singapore HIV Congress, spotlighting collaborations among community groups, individuals living with HIV, healthcare providers, and public health practitioners.

4. ‘People Like Us’ Web Series

On December 7, AfA launches the latest season of ‘People Like Us,’ a web series offering insights into the experiences of the marginalised gay community in Singapore, focusing on critical health issues.

5. Community Discussion

On December 9 & 19, AfA participates in the ViiV/GSK Community Discussion, addressing vital issues in combating HIV-related stigma, enhancing education, and fortifying prevention initiatives.

Action for AIDS Singapore: A Beacon of Hope in the Fight Against HIV/AIDS

Action for AIDS Singapore stands as a beacon of hope, providing lifelines through lifesaving programs, education, empowerment, and tirelessly working to reduce stigma. As the organisation continues to care for at-risk and marginalised communities, it remains dedicated to providing the resources, compassion, and support needed to embrace healthier and more fulfilling lives for individuals and families affected by HIV/AIDS in Singapore.
