News for Working Moms
A recent study done in Columbia University has shown that moms who work risk almost no development harm to their child.
Mothers out there! Are you torn apart between your job and child? Do you worry that being tied down by a nine to five job might harm your child’s development and well being?
A recent study done in Columbia University has shown that moms who work risk almost no development harm to their child. What a relief for all you working moms out there!
The study called “First-Year Maternal Employment and Child Development in the First 7 Years” tracked more than 1000 children and found out that the negative effects of a working mom are neutralised by the positive effects.
Since working moms have more disposable income, they are able to spend more on high quality childcare. Additionally, findings from the study indicate that working moms seem to be more responsive to their child’s needs when they do get to spend time with him/her. These positive effects cancel out negative effects of lower levels of interaction with children.
Researchers hope that the findings will lessen the guilt that moms feel when they have to leave their child and go to work. Moms now can decide whether they want to stay at home and care for their child or work without feeling pressured. =)
