5 wonders of water – drinking 3 litres a day takes 10 years off your face!
The wonders of water
42 year old Sarah Smith suffered headaches and poor digestion for years. Upon seeing a neurologist and a nutritionist; they both recommended that she increase her water intake to 3 litres a day.
Sarah says, "usually I start my day with a cup of tea, then I might have a glass of water with my lunch and one with dinner - that's about a litre of liquid in 24 hours. It feels like plenty, but apparently it's not nearly enough."
She adds that 1 in 5 in the UK consumes less than the recommended daily intake of water.

Improves texture and appearance of skin
In the earlier picture Sarah said she looked 52 instead of 42. She said, "there are dark shadows under and around my eyes, which make me look exhausted, a profusion of wrinkles and strange reddish blotches, and my skin lacks any lustre. It looks dead".
Experts say that the above symptoms are classic evidence of poor hydration. Drinking plenty of water improves elasticity and suppleness of the skin and prevents dryness by detoxifying the skin. Atlanta dermatologist Kenneth Ellner, MD. says "dehydration makes your skin look dry and wrinkled, which can be improved with proper hydration."
For better-looking skin, avoid dehydrating beverages that include caffeine, like cola, chocolate and coffee. Sarah also says that her husband noticed the cellulite on her bottom had reduced!
Water helps you control calories.
Sarah lost 2lbs, and half an inch off her waist during her one-month experiment. Drinking enough water suppresses your appetite to a great extent and helps you reduce calorie intake. It also removes impurities in your system and by-products of fat.
More great news is that water doesn’t contain ANY calories, so if you could swap fizzy drinks and other high calorie drinks with water you will lose even more weight!
Water helps relieve headaches
One of the reasons Sarah saw a doctor was because of her headaches. After following the doctor’s advice and drinking more water, her headaches disappeared.
Experts say that sufficient water intake helps alleviate headaches and back pain. Although there are many causes for a headache, dehydration is one of the most common.
Water helps maintain healthy kidney function
If you are not getting enough liquids your urine turns dark yellow and has an increased odour. If you consume adequate liquids, most importantly water, urine flows freely through your kidneys and you are less prone to develop kidney stones and urine infections.
You are at a higher risk for infections and kidney stones in the humid climate of Singapore where you perspire more. So do make sure you drink enough water.
Water helps maintain regular bowel function
Sarah suffered poor digestion as a result of low water intake. A good intake of water can avoid digestion problems like acid reflux by diluting the acidity in your digestive tract.
Another digestive tract –related problem many of us face is constipation. You can get constipated when your colon pulls liquid from the stools to maintain hydration. Adequate fluids and fibre are the perfect combination for a healthy bowel function. The fibre absorbs the water, and as a result acts as a stool softener.
Water is essential for an overall healthy body
Sarah Smith says, "it flushes toxins from the vital organs, carries nutrients to cells, provides a moist environment for ear, nose and throat tissues, and eliminates waste."
70% of our bodies including our brain, muscles, and tissue are made of water. Therefore water is essential for overall function of all the organs in our bodies. So make sure you drink up the recommended 3 litres of water starting today to look and feel amazing!
