11 little things done by super happy couples
Happiness almost always blooms at the beginning of any relationship. But after some time, for some couples, happiness levels may unfortunately start to dwindle.
For others, happiness continues to grow, and you can see this in their smiles, through their body language and how they interact with each other in general.
What are their secrets? It’s easy to find out through observation. We’re telling you right now that you’ll only have to make some small changes to see remarkably big differences in your level of happiness!
So, if you and your partner too want to create your own little happy space, give these 15 tips a go, starting right now.
1. Talk through the day
Communication plays such a huge role in how happy a relationship gets (and remains), so keep chatting to your darling through the day.
Yes, you may have back-to-back meetings but even a simple text message saying "I love you and I’m thinking about you" (of course, feel free to be saucier than that!), will do. Most importantly, it will bring a smile of pure happiness to your partner’s face.
2. Time together
You may have been married for 15 years and have three kids, but creating time just for the two of you is so important and can have a huge influence on your happiness levels.
So, plan regular date nights, go out and watch a movie together, or even wake up before the kids do and spend some alone time sipping cups of hot coffee. And experience just how happy you’ll feel doing this!
3. Go to bed at the same time
Even if one of you has to wake up early to finish some work or a project, try to go to bed at the same time.
This gives you the opportunity to talk about your day. Pillow talk almost always follows – and you know how happy this will make you feel!!
4. No phone zone
When you are alone together, focus on each other and not your phones or laptops.
5. Set clear boundaries
A couple that is super happy clearly define lines in their relationship that can’t be crossed under any circumstance.
For example, they’d have a mutually shared and agreed upon understanding about what is and not appropriate with relation to ex-partners, pornography, friends of the opposite sex etc.
6. Do little things for each other
It doesn’t take grandiose gestures of love all the time to keep a couple happy. Sometimes, all it takes is something small to bring a smile to your partner's face.
So, buy her ice-cream when she least expects it, cook his favourite breakfast every Sunday, stop your car and pick a beautiful wildflower and present it to her… these are just a few of the little things you can do to make your partner happy.
7. Create traditions
Whether it’s going to the beach followed by brunch every Sunday morning with the kids, or sitting down kid-free to a quiet home-cooked dinner by one of you every Wednesday night – create little traditions that will always be cherished as happy memories.
8. Thrash it out
Happy couples don’t harbour grudges, neither do they bottle up their emotions if one is upset over something the other did.
If there’s a situation where you’re not happy with your partner, get it out there in the open, sort through the issue before the day is over and finish your day happy with each other once more.
9. Compliments matter
Whether it’s telling your partner how gorgeous they are, or complimenting them on a quality you absolutely love – keep the praise coming, and mean it from the heart.
10. Make plans and set goals together
Really happy couples make plans together and also discuss and set goals on a weekly and yearly basis, showing they have direction in life.
These goals could be small ones like "exercise together three times a week", or bigger goals such as saving money to buy an apartment or house.
Regardless, planning like this and setting goals contributes to a couple’s happiness because there are creating dreams together, and supporting each other to realise these dreams.
11. Learn your partner’s language of love
For some, it’s verbal expressions of adoration. For others, it’s physical touch. Whatever it is, find out what your partner’s ‘language of love’ is, and talk to them using this ‘language’ often.
