Texas Shooting Incident Causes Deaths of About 19 Children

When parents of children attending Robb Elementary School started the day, they did not expect it to end in tragedy. Among the students in the school, several gunshots caused the untimely demise of about 18 children.

Moreover, around 2 adults working in the school also passed away during the massacre. The teen gunman was later apprehended by police who rushed to the scene. Unfortunately, he was immediately shot down when he allegedly opened fire on the authorities. Because of this, we can’t know the reason why the suspect committed the cruel crime.

At a news conference, Governor Greg Abbott named the 18-year-old gunman as Salvador Ramos. Before dying at the scene, the suspect attended a nearby high school. During the shooting, investigators claim the teenager armed himself with different guns and weapons.

“He shot and killed horrifically, incomprehensibly,” stated Governor Abbott.

Flags across the country fly at half-staff until May 28. This follows US President Joe Biden’s orders after he heard of the incident. He later delivered a statement to the nation after the tragic massacre.

President Biden began his speech with a deep sigh before expressing his disdain over the recent Texas shooting. He then stressed the importance of the passing of “common-sense” gun law throughout the country.

According to President Biden, “The idea that an 18-year-old kid can walk into a gun store and buy two assault weapons is just wrong.”

Devastated Parents Waited and Took DNA Swabs

It’s heartbreaking to know that most reporters heard the distant cries of devastated parents. Moreover, the parents and guardians of the victims needed to take DNA tests to confirm their relations. They also couldn’t instantly know if their child was injured or dead.

Robb Elementary hosts more than 500 students every school year. Most of the children who attend the institution are aged between 7 and 10.

Ryan Ramirez, a parent of a Robb Elementary student, told reporters, “Nobody’s telling me anything.” The parent also added his plea, “I’m trying to find out where my baby’s at.”

Parents of the children comforted each other as they waited for updates on their kids. This is because most of the families in the area lived in their houses for generations.

Suspect Salvador Ramos opened fire at Robb Elementary School at around 11:30 am. He entered the school and shot every person he encountered.

When the police arrived, they noticed that the suspect wore body armour. Upon seeing law enforcement officials, Ramos exchanged shots with them. After multiple officers got injured, authorities decided to shoot down the armed teenager.

Before the gruesome massacre, Ramos reportedly shot his 66-year-old grandmother. Investigators believed this crime served as a “practice” for the suspect before the shooting.

Some parents who lived in the neighbourhood near Robb Elementary claimed the suspect often displayed rebellious behaviour. However, none of them knew he was capable of orchestrating the tragedy.

Golden State Warriors Coach Appealed for Stricter Gun Laws

Following the news of the recent Texas shooting, Steve Kerr appealed for stricter gun laws at a pre-game news conference. The Golden State Warriors Coach expressed his frustration about the news as he slammed his fists on the table.

“I’m tired. I am so tired of getting up here and offering condolences to the devastated families that are out there,” stated Kerr.

His appearance at the conference was meant to discuss his team’s upcoming match with the Dallas Mavericks. Despite this, Kerr continued his rant about gun violence and school shootings.

Mavericks coach Jason Kidd followed suit and talked about the shooting before the game.

He said, “As coaches, as fathers, we have kids, people in this room have kids, elementary school; you can just think about what could take place with any of your family or friends at a school.”

Before the recent Texas shooting, mass shootings in the USA totalled more than 200 incidents in 2022 alone. Among those cases, 27 massacres occurred in schools. The one that happened in Robb Elementary currently hails as the worst one in the country in 2022.

Because of the recent tragedy, more Americans joined the call for stricter gun laws.

The University of Michigan recently conducted research regarding the leading cause of untimely demises of children in the USA. Shootings top the list while motor vehicle accidents come in second.
