Teen bands to rock fort canning

Teenagers to get a new outlet to showcase their talent and express themselves better.

Teenage band in Singapore

SINGAPORE – This weekend 15 upcoming local youth bands will get an opportunity to perform at Fort Canning Park.  Groups like Godzilla will play original pieces inspired by US rock bands such as Blink 182 and Foo Fighters. Its 4 members, who are aged 14 are currently studying at the Australian International School and practice whenever time permits.

ITE College East Student, Sidney Chua, 19 learnt about the  event from his lecturer, who is supportive about the band that Sidney created.  Another band, Orangecove, however, have more ambitious plans. Not only satisfied with performing gigs, they are aiming to release their mini-album locally and overseas, with hopes that local radio stations will play their pieces. They also plan on using Facebook and MySpace to reach out to fans.

TP2B Director of operations, Mr Dale Hanson, 26, said that this concert was organized a launch event to raise public awareness of the company’s larger ambition. He plans to start a record label for local budding youth rockers. Citing a lack of support for the youths for an outlet to showcase their talent and maximizing their potential, he hopes that TP2B will be able to fill the gap. This will also allow youths an avenue to express themselves.

This spells good news to teenagers, as there will soon be an additional outlet to hang out apart from *SCAPE. Plans are in the pipeline of teen-only membership, although the venue has yet to be decided. Mr Hanson hopes that it could be an outlet for local teen bands to entertain their peers and as a place for hanging out after school hours.

The concert will take place at Fort Canning Park on Saturday, 10 September at 2 pm. Tickets are available at the door or from www.tp2bsingapore.com. Free admission for teens under 20 years old.
