Pregnant women have pain in their vagina, a headache in the pubic area that radiates to the genitals. Is this a sign that labor is near?

It's not even time to give birth yet, are you going to give birth already, my child? Are you experiencing these symptoms because it's close to giving birth? It causes pain in the vagina, a sharp pain in the pubic area, and pain in the groin that radiates to the genitals.

During the waiting period for a new member, the physical changes of pregnant mothers always create doubts and worries. Symptoms of vaginal pain, a dull feeling, a groin pain that may radiate deep to the genitals are another common symptom. And often questioned whether this is a sign that the body is preparing for birth or is it just a normal symptom that comes with pregnancy? This article will take mothers to understand the possible causes of such symptoms and answer the question of whether vaginal pain, groin pain, and genital pain in pregnant women really indicate signs of near delivery. This will allow mothers to observe their own symptoms with understanding and be aware of the important signals that the body sends.

Pregnant women have pain in their genitals, groin, and vagina.

What does pain between the legs tell pregnant mothers? During the last trimester of pregnancy, pregnant mothers often have to deal with illnesses such as pain between the legs, which may be felt all the way to the genitals. This pain comes in the form of a stabbing sensation, similar to an electric shock. And the pain that occurs makes one wonder if this symptom occurs because it is time to give birth, or if this is a sign of danger, is something happening to the baby in the womb?

When the fetus moves down to the pelvis, the sharp pain between the legs is a sign that the cervix is changing. The little baby is moving down to the pelvis, as if it is touching the mother from the inside (or is the baby having an electric current!). The cervix has dilated and thinned, causing pain for several weeks. But this is not a sign that labor is near if there are no other symptoms.

For some pregnant women, pain between the legs is a sign of something else, that is, the baby has turned its head and is in a birth position, which affects the nerves in the uterus, causing pain in the genitals because the baby’s head is usually the leading part, which is in the lower part of the uterus. The baby’s head is pressing on the pubic bone, causing pain.

Why? Pregnant women have pain in their genitals, groin, and vagina.

  • The weight of the pregnant mother increases, the area between the legs, which bears the weight of the body, is pressed by the large belly with the baby inside, causing a feeling of pain in the genitals, especially when the baby in the womb moves, it is especially painful.
  • If a pregnant mother has had 2 or more children, the abdominal wall will not be tight, causing the abdomen to sag and press on the pubic area .
  • Going up or down stairs can also put pressure on the womb, causing pain.
  • When a pregnant woman enters the last trimester, blood may not circulate well, causing swelling and tightness in the groin and genitals.

When should I see a doctor?

Although pubic pain and pain in the pubic area may be normal at times, if a pregnant woman experiences pubic pain, a sharp pain in the pubic area, or a severe aching sensation, she can take 2 tablets of paracetamol 500 mg every 4-6 hours to relieve the pain. However, the mother should see a doctor immediately if she has these symptoms along with:

  • Severe and acute pain  that is unbearable
  • Vaginal bleeding  is not just a little bit of mucus.
  • Water breaks  , whether or not there is associated labor pain.
  • The baby moves less or not at all.  Observe the baby’s movements. If you feel that the baby moves less than usual, you should go for a check-up immediately.
  • Fever  may indicate infection.
  • Severe headache, blurred vision, or epigastric pain  may be signs of preeclampsia.

Genital pain or groin pain during pregnancy may be a sign of normal physiological changes or may be a warning sign that labor is approaching. It is important to watch for other symptoms, especially symptoms of real labor. Taking proper care of yourself and not hesitating to consult a doctor when in doubt or with worrisome symptoms will help keep mother and baby safe throughout pregnancy and during labor.
