Why kids ALWAYS ask for bandages -- and the ouch-free way to remove them!

Why kids ALWAYS ask for bandages -- and the ouch-free way to remove them! Why kids ALWAYS ask for bandages -- and the ouch-free way to remove them!

Does your child always insist on putting a bandage on every tiny scrape? Find out why here, plus learn about the pain-free innovation by Nexcare™!

If you are a parent of a young child then you might have noticed that as soon as your kid gets a tiny cut or a little scratch, she will instantly demand for a bandage or a plaster to cover her wound.

If your child is like mine, then you’ll agree that sometimes even if there isn’t a wound in the first place, she will still insist on covering up the “boo-boo” anyway!

Before you brush off this cute (but borderline annoying) habit, here are two main reasons why your little one thinks that a bandage will help make her feel better:

1. Placebo effect

Let’s say your child accidentally stubs her toe on her toy chest — although she isn’t bleeding, nor is there a broken bone, it still hurts!

We know that the throbbing will eventually go away soon, but your little one needs something to be done about the pain immediately.

Putting a bandage on her “injury” will create a placebo effect, the same way as you giving her scraped knee a magical kiss would instantly help the pain melt away.

If there is an open wound, not only will covering it prevent dirt from getting in and causing a possible infection, your child does not want to see the cut or scratch and have a visual reminder of her unpleasant accident, so giving her a bandage might not be a bad idea after all.

2. TLC needed

When your child falls and gets a cut on her leg or injures herself in any way, it is comforting for her to receive some care and attention from you.

So when she comes running to you with an “ouchie”, it makes her feel better that her mummy or daddy fusses over her and tends to her wound with genuine care and concern.

Sometimes it might not be about the physical bandage covering her cut, but more of the physical affection she’s receiving from her parents when she’s feeling upset.

Which bandage is suitable for your child’s sensitive and fragile skin?

Choosing the perfect bandage

With so many different kinds of bandages available in the market, how will you know which one is the perfect choice for your family?

Nexcare™ has a new range of sensitive skin products, perfect for your little one’s delicate skin.

These products are suitable for those with sensitive skin like babies, the elderly, or even people with chronic skin conditions (e.g: eczema).

Using their unique Sensitive Skin Technology, their range includes:

Nexcare™ Sensitive Skin Bandages – Great for minor cuts and scrapes, comes in 3 different sizes in 1 box, and promises pain-free removal yet holds securely

Nexcare™ Sensitive Skin Tape – Ideal for post surgery gauze applications, has long term adhesion, and removes cleanly with minimal hair pulling

Nexcare™ Sensitive Skin Adhesive Pads – Helps protect minor wounds, is breathable for added comfort, and is repositionable for optimal placement

nexcare™, bandage, plaster

Nexcare™ Sensitive Skin bandage (top) offers gentle and pain-free removal vs. a regular bandage (bottom) which was painful and pulls out hair!

Nexcare™ Sensitive Skin products take the fear out of bandage removal

I put Nexcare™ Sensitive Skin bandages to the test and as someone who has sensitive skin, suffers from mild eczema and also has an abundance of body hair, I was very impressed by the results.

These unique bandages which were clinically designed for sensitive and fragile skin offers gentle removal that minimises skin cell and hair stripping, yet still holds securely even under running water or with movement.

The regular bandage which I also tested painfully ripped out a significant amount of hair from my arm, no matter how slowly and carefully I tried to peel it off.

After wearing both bandages for a couple of hours, the regular bandage turned my skin slightly red, caused it to be a bit itchy and also left behind a small trace of residual adhesion.

Whereas the Nexcare™ Sensitive Skin bandage was pain-free to remove, did not cause any skin irritation and was gentle to my skin.

If I winced when trying to remove the regular bandage, I can understand now why my daughter always refuses to take hers off and yelps in pain if we try to peel it off her fragile skin.

So the next time my daughter accidentally cuts her finger or scrapes her knee (or has an imaginary wound), I’ll be sure to consider her feelings, kiss her “ouchie” away and put a Nexcare™ Sensitive Skin bandage on it to keep her happy!

Nexcare™ Sensitive Skin collection is available at selected Guardian, Watsons and Unity outlets from October 26th 2016. For more information visit www.nexcare.com.sg.
