FairPrice now offers housebrand formula milk for under S$30

FairPrice now offers housebrand formula milk for under S$30

This formula milk joins three other affordable formula milk brands recently launched in Singapore.

Yesterday (Wednesday September 20), NTUC FairPrice introduced a new range of Australian formula milk,* under its own housebrand label.

According to a Channel NewsAsia report, a 900g tin of the NTUC FairPrice formula milk costs S$27-S$29. There are three types on offer: for babies up to the age of 6 months, between 6 months and a year, and for children one year and older.

CEO of NTUC FairPrice Seah Kian Peng is quoted by CNA as saying the launch of this brand was part of their “ongoing efforts to holistically address parents’ concerns on rising costs of formula milk”.

He added, “Through our own housebrand label, we are able to provide very good value by offering a high-quality product at a price that is much lower than comparable brands.”

Just last month, Sheng Siong introduced a range of Australian formula milk – a 900g tin of this is priced between S$25 to S$29.50.

In May, a Singaporean brand of formula milk (Einmilk) was made available for less than S$40 a tin. And in June this year, NTUC gave customers another range of formula milk, with a 900g tin costing between S$27.50 and S$35.

The latest brand of formula milk joins these others introduced in the recent past after requests for more affordable formula milk brands in Singapore.

According to CNA, “data from the Singapore Department of Statistics showed that the average retail price of formula milk more than doubled over the past nine years.”

*Authorities in global health such as the World Health Organisation and other health professionals encourage mums to exclusively breastfeed their babies for at least 6 months, and if possible, up to 2 years.

Having pointed this out, the decision on whether to feed your baby breastmilk or formula remains yours, after considering the pros and cons of both.
