5 last minute PSLE math tips
The PLSE exams are just around the corner.
Panicking about the mathematics paper? Will you score?
Check out these 5 last minute study tips from mathematics expert, John Yeo, who has over 10 years of experience as a P6 Maths coach!
Solve equations with a positive attitude
If you have a positive mindset, you will definitely attract positive energy around you. Always tell yourself that it’s a piece of cake when you’re practicing your mathematics. If you are really having trouble solving a question, note it down and consult your tutors. Don't let yourself get stuck and anxious.
Time management
Manage your time carefully. More work, less play. Keep in mind that this is last minute revision and you will need every second of your time to study the material in your syllabus. Set a time limit for yourself when you’re practicing. Use a buzzer if necessary, your phone timer will do. Work within the time limit that will be given to you during the exam period. This method will help you, in the long run, to work faster and more efficiently.
Watch out for units
Questions with units -- cm, kg, $ -- can be really tricky on the PSLE mathematics paper. Be very careful to write down the measurement unit. Your answer may be right but if you forget to include the unit--points will be deducted.
Move on if you are stuck
Never stay on a question for too long if you are stuck. Move on to other questions. This is to avoid wasting precious time. Besides, you might come across an easier version of the similar question on the paper, which may give you an idea on how to solve that question you were stuck on earlier.
Stay calm. Calculate correctly
Don’t be nervous when you’re doing your exams. According to John Yeo, most candidates make silly mistakes like getting a 20 instead of a 24 for a 6x4 equation, due to anxiety. Get a good night’s sleep to keep a clear mind for the exam day. Remember to stay calm and make sure you understand the questions clearly before tackling it. Good luck!
