The school holidays are approaching. Can you believe it, mum? It seems only yesterday when we started preparing our kids for the start of a new school year.

If you’re like me, I’m sure you want your child’s school break to be not only fun but also (dare we say it) educational and most of all, memorable for the whole family.

If budget and schedule was not an issue, it would be so great to take them to Disneyland or an exotic place like Japan to learn about the culture and enjoy to their heart’s content. But alas, we mere mortals would have to settle for something close and local for the time being.

But worry not, mums and dads, we found these awesome events that will put your kid’s school break off to a good start. And the good news is they’re all just around Singapore! Are you excited? Let’s get to it!

  • Witness the magic at Disney on Ice (from March 11 to 19)

Is your kid a big Disney fan? Then, nothing quite like Mickey Mouse and the gang to usher in the upcoming school break. Catch your child’s favourite Disney Princesses as they perform their spins and stick their landing in these awesome performances.

You only have a few days to catch the magic as it packs up after March 20. So better put this first on your list of March school holidays activities. Check out their website to learn more.

  • Good Ole Fun at City Green Park

Research says outdoor play can reduce the negative effects of screen time. So get your child out and about and bring them to City Square Mall to experience a classic carnival, complete with classic rides and games like the Carousel, Trackless Train, Pirate Ship and more! Spend a lovely time bonding together with the family from 10 March to 9 April.

  • Visit this year’s Sakura Display at Gardens by the Bay

If like me, you’ve always wanted to bring your kids to see the cherry blossoms in Japan, you’ll be thrilled to know that you need not take a six-hour flight as these flowers are on display at Singapore Gardens by the Bay.

Want your child to soak up some Japanese culture? Visitors of the Sakura display can also look forward to enjoying a lineup of Japanese-themed activities, such as cultural experiences held in collaboration with the Embassy of Japan in Singapore’s Japan Creative Centre. So make sure you take your child while they’re on vacation before the entire exhibition closes on April 9.

  • Celebrate amazing women in STEM at the Science Centre

Unless you’ve been living under a misogynistic rock, you know that the whole month of March is International Women’s Month, and there are a lot of empowering events around Singapore that pays tribute to women’s contribution to society. One of which is the DiscovHer Exhibit happening at the Science Centre that runs from the 8th to the 19th of March.

Bring your daughter and participate in the many activities as you get to know more about the amazing women who made their mark in the field of science and technology. Visit the Science Centre website to learn more.

  • Head to the T3 Underground Carnival at Changi Airport

Only in the world’s most awarded airport do you get to go on a time machine and visit the past, present and future of carnivals. Head down to Terminal 3 with the whole family and get a feel of the carnival of your era in a vast 9000-square-meter indoor installation. Need I say more?

The Modern World (present-day-themed carnival) and Future World (futuristic carnival) will be extended until the 1st of May, but just like in real life, the past is ever elusive, so make sure to catch the nostalgic vibe and old-school games and rides at The Great World carnival until April 2. Do it while your child’s on a school break! Click here to learn more.

  • Rilakkuma Carnival for the little ones

But if your kids are still too young to appreciate the gigantic display at the Underground Carnival, you can take them to the cute mini-fair featuring the cute gang of Rilakkuma and friends.  Go on toddler-friendly rides and take adorable pictures at Terminal 3 Level 2, Departure Immigration Hall with your little tots, which make for a bear-y relaxing school holiday activity.

  • Take your kid to these musical events

How we wish we can all go to Harry Styles concert soon, but it might not be feasible with our kids in tow. But there are several musical events lined up that they might also enjoy.

Is your child a K-pop fan?  How about you treat them to another kind of music instead? The group A Flutey Affair marries the classical flute and the world of K-pop together in their concert happening in March 15 at 1 Esplanade.

If wind instruments are not your jam, you can also watch the Children’s Concert on March 12 at the YST Concert Hall Singapore. If not for anything, these musical events may just inspire a future Beethoven out of your little one.

  • Watch a movie and go on a picnic at the same time.

Drive-in movie or a picnic at the park? If these two things sound enticing to you, then mark your calendar for City Square Mall’s Earth Hour Get-2Gether on the 25th of March.

Join in the celebration with a line-up of family activities such as a special appearance by Water Wally and Sally, quizzes on water conservation, a live performance by final-year NAFA Diploma in Music students, as well as a movie screening of Wall•E.

Simply spend $60* to redeem 4 entry passes to this event and a picnic snack basket (worth $100)! To make it even more exciting, you will also get to enjoy free-flow popcorn in exotic flavours such as nasi lemak and chilli crab. Make this an affair to remember with the whole fam. Visit their website for more details.
