Thinking about the future

An annual survey of children living in Singapore, conducted by Adecco Singapore, revealed some interesting thoughts.

The children, ranging from 7-14 years were asked 5 simple questions, including what they wanted to be when they grew up, what the most important thing to them is, and what they look forward to doing the most in 2010. It turns out that most children think that being lawyer is pretty much the coolest job to have, while some others would like slightly less conventional jobs (dancer, game critic, weapons engineer…).

Still, one of the most interesting discoveries lay in the answers gathered in response to the question “If you became Prime Minister of Singapore, what are the first three things you would do?” It took a little bit of time for them to decide on their first actions if they were to undertake such a gargantuan task, but most generally agreed that they wanted to help others, maintain a safe Singapore for all to enjoy, and ensure a good education for everyone. There were some other answers they gathered, though, which were simply brilliant.

• Find more ways to reduce global warming
• Ensure that everyone has a job
• Upgrade computers in schools (it just gets better and better…)
• Give a ‘thank you’ speech
• Build more theme parks
• Kill all insects
• Ensure that each child is given a game console
• Make more peanut butter factories
• Save our coral reefs
• Ban exams
• Buy a super big white house!

And we kind of think they’re right!
