Did you give birth at home or at a hospital? Would you ever consider having a home birth?

As modern women, we are not afraid to exhibit our feminist beliefs. Women today are capable independent individuals who are climbing the corporate ladders and becoming successful entrepreneurs faster than many men.

Home birth – would you ever have one?

Technology and the world are developing at a rapid pace, and as bread-earners, women want the best for themselves, even when giving birth. This said, the idea of having your baby delivered at home has become a very dated concept.

Hospitals might seem the modern comfortable way, but if Mum’s think about it, there is lots that is unpleasant to say the least.  Waiting for the arrival of your baby involves doctors and nurses constantly prodding and fussing over you, Dad’s to be are often more jittery and panicky in a hospital than at home. And when the screaming starts, it just gets awkward, especially if you’re sharing a ward.

Many expecting mothers choose the option of delivering their babies in hospitals to avoid how messy the situation could get in their homes. Caesarean’s (C section) aren’t ideal to try at home either.

An increasing trend

While the thought of a home birth may seem daunting, there are women today who do choose to do so, albeit with a certain amount of medical help.  Dr. Nancy Salgueiro of Your Birth Coach is one of them. In fact, she will be taking her home birth one step further – she intends to stream her whole labour live, so anyone can tune in online to watch it

Dr. Nancy states, For me an empowered birth is one where I am the one who makes the decisions for me and my baby.

Closer home, one of our readers, Eliza Han also had a home birth. Although, hers was by accident and not by choice!
