George Yeo shares joy and relief after wife declared cancer-free

Former Singapore Minister George Yeo has posted an emotional note on Facebook after his wife Jennifer was declared cancer-free...

Last year, Former Minister George Yeo had revealed his wife Jennifer Yeo's battle with nose cancer. The only symptom she had had, was the loss of her sense of smell.

She was diagnosed with Sinonasal Undifferentiated Carcinoma - a rare aggressive cancer in her left ethmoidal sinus.

The family had then moved to Houston for Jennifer's treatment.

Today, George Yeo posted an emotional note on Facebook after Jennifer was finally declared cancer-free.

George Yeo posts emotional note

George Yeo shared his relief on Facebook, "After more than 6 months in Houston, we look forward to returning home. Jennifer has responded well to treatment at M.D. Anderson."

"She had a full checkup on 29 and 30 Jan. There is no trace anymore of her cancer (Sinonasal Undifferentiated Carcinoma)."

He also revealed treatment details, "However, she has to be under close surveillance especially in the first two years. Altogether, she went through 4 cycles of chemotherapy and 33 sessions of proton beam radiotherapy."

He remains cautious though, as these are still early days. But for now, he is thankful to God, "We thank God for His mercy, the Virgin Mary for her intercession and so many relatives, friends and well-wishers for your prayers and support."

Family dealing with cancer for the second time

This is not the first time cancer has cast it's shadow on the family.

George and Jennifer's fourth and and youngest child, Frederick, was just 3, when he was diagnosed with childhood leukaemia.

By the time he was 10, the child had gone through at least 4 years of painful treatment and 2 relapses. The family was devastated when they got to know that he had less than a 20 % chance to live.

But they did not give up. Jennifer took Frederick to St Jude Children's Research Hospital in the U.S, where he was cured after a bone marrow transplant and intensive treatment.

Determined to help other children battle cancer, she set up the Viva Foundation in Singapore in 2006.

Jennifer, a lawyer, once said, "All the career in the world doesn't, cannot, buy you a life."

Here's wishing this family good health and happiness.
