COVID-19: 4 Kids, 1 Infant Among New Confirmed Cases of Coronavirus In Singapore

A 2-year-old linked to the PCF Sparkletots preschool in Fengshan, and a 1-year-old imported case are among the new confirmed cases of the COVID-19 infection here.

Singapore on Friday (27 March) reported 49 new cases of the COVID-19 infection here, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 732.

Of the new cases, 22 are imported and 27 are local cases who have no recent travel history abroad, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said.

Eighteen of the cases are linked to clusters or previous cases, while nine cases are currently unlinked. Contact tracing is ongoing.

Among the imported cases is a 1-year-old female India national who tested positive for the virus on Thursday (26 March). The patient is currently warded in an isolation room at KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital (KKH).

Five of the new confirmed cases are linked to the cluster involving PCF Sparkletots preschool in Fengshan, bringing the total number of infections arising from the cluster is 25.

This includes as 2-year-old Singaporean girl who tested positive of the virus on Thursday (26 March). Two other kids, an 11-year-old Singaporean male and a 13-year-old Singaporean female are among the new cases from the cluster. All three patients are warded in isolation at KKH.

16 of the cases are staff at the preschool, and nine are family members of Case 601.

The preschool centre at Blk 126 Fengshan will close for two weeks for cleaning and disinfection.

Earlier, the Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA) confirmed that among the infected employees is the principal at the Fengshan centre. An ECDA spokesperson said the principal was well when she was at work on 17 March but developed symptoms in the afternoon. The principal was said to have had a meeting with her staff and later attended a course with staff from other preschools in the same evening.

All PAP Community Foundation (PCF) Sparkletots Preschool centres have been closed since Thursday, said ECDA, to review its precautionary measures and to clean and disinfect all its premises.
