COVID-19: 347 New Cases Including 15-year-old Student, 1 More Death Reported on 13 June

A 73-year-old Singaporean man has died on Friday (June 12) from complications due to the coronavirus.

Singapore on Saturday (13 June) reported 347 new cases of COVID-19 infection, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said.

This brings the total number of COVID-19 infections here to 40,197.

347 New Cases Reported on 13 June

Of the new cases, five were from the community including two Singaporeans and three work permit holders. Both Singaporean cases were detected through proactive screening.

A 15-year-old Singaporean girl, a student at St Anthony’s Canossian Secondary, tested positive of the virus. The case was picked up from the MOH’s proactive testing of students with acute respiratory infection.

According to MOH, her serological test result came back positive on 12 June. This is said to be indicative that she was likely to have been infected during the Circuit Breaker period, and not after school re-opening. She is currently an unlinked case.

The other case involving a Singaporean is a 67-year-old woman who works at the SCM Tuas Lodge dormitory.

Overall, the number of new cases in the community has increased, from an average of 7 cases per day in the week before, to an average of 8 per day in the past week, MOH said. The number of unlinked cases in the community has also increased, from an average of 2 cases per day in the week before, to an average of 4 per day in the past week.

“This is partly due to our active surveillance and screening of targeted groups, which have picked up more cases in the past week,” MOH said. “We will continue to closely monitor these numbers, as well as the cases detected through our surveillance programme.”

1 More Death Reported

Singapore also reported one more COVID-19 related death.

A 73-year-old male Singaporean, has passed away from complications due to COVID-19 infection on 12 June. He was confirmed to have COVID-19 infection on 9 March, and had a history of hypertension, hyperlipidaemia and chronic kidney disease. He was linked to the cluster involving a private dinner function at Safra Jurong.

According to MOH, the National Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCID) has reached out to his family and is extending assistance to them.

In addition, 15 new cases were linked to 28 previously reported cases linked to 50 Tech Park Crescent, thus forming a new cluster.

Six new locations were added to the list of public places visited by Covid-19 patients while they were still infectious.

These locations include:

  • Geylang Serai Market
  • Poiz Centre at Upper Serangoon Road
  • Sheng Siong supermarket at New World Centre
  • Boon Lay Shopping Centre
  • 18 Marsiling Lane
  • Sheng Siong supermarket at 301 Geylang Road

347 new cases

The health ministry urges those who have been at these locations should monitor their health closely for 14 days from date of visit, and see a doctor promptly if they develop respiratory symptoms.

Meanwhile, MOH said close contacts of the confirmed patients have already been notified. There is also no need for the public to avoid these places as they would have been cleaned and disinfected if needed.

The list, which excludes residences, workplaces, healthcare facilities and public transport, will be updated on a rolling 14-days basis.

768 More Discharged Cases

MOH also announced 768 discharged cases on Saturday.

These cases have been discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities, bringing the national total recoveries to 28,808.

There are currently 228 confirmed cases still in hospital, most of whom are stable or improving, MOH said. One patient is in critical condition in the intensive care unit.
