Give your child more fluids
Drinking more liquids may loosen your child’s stools and make them easier to pass. An average school-age child requires 3-4 glasses of water a day. You can also add fruit juices to their diet.
Up their fibre intake
Vegetables like carrots, beets, pumpkin, and beans contain fibre. Green and leafy vegetables like spinach is good too. Increase your child’s fruit intake as well. Prunes are known to relieve constipation.
If your child doesn't like the taste of prunes, then blend it in with other fruits to make a smoothie. Other soft fruits like peaches, apricots and papaya work well too. Increase whole grain foods like brown rice, oats and whole wheat bread in their diet as well.
Honey
Honey is one of the best home remedies for constipation. Mix a tablespoon of honey into a cup of milk and give it to your child in the morning and at night right before sleeping.
Give them a tummy massage
Rub your child’s lower tummy gently in circular motions. This does wonders in encouraging movement in the intestines. This will help relieving any discomfort your child is feeling as well.
A warm bath
If your child is experiencing rectal pain, this method will work. Fill the bath tub halfway with warm water and mix two tablespoons of baking soda into it. Let your child sit in the water for 15 minutes to relieve pain.
