All upper primary students (Primary 4-6) will take compulsory coding enrichment classes from 2020, to empower them with the skills needed to to thrive in the digital age.

"We must excite young Singaporeans about the new opportunities in the digital economy. For a start, we are exposing them to the skill sets that are needed," said Minister for Communications and Information, S Iswaran at the Ministry’s workplan seminar on 10 July 2019.

An expanded Code For Fun programme (CFF) will be piloted for Primary 6 pupils this year (2019) at some schools, after the PSLE.

CFF was first introduced as an optional enrichment programme for primary and secondary school students in 2014. It will now be rolled out to Primary 4 to 6 students in all primary schools by 2020.

Code For Fun has been co-developed by the Ministry of Education (MOE) and IMDA. It involves a 10-hour enrichment programme on computational thinking and coding concepts through simple visual programming based lessons.

Do note that this programme will NOT be examinable.

For secondary and tertiary level students, the Singapore Cyber Youth Programme (SG Cyber Youth) will be introduced.

It has been developed by Cyber Security Agency of Singapore (CSA), in collaboration with partners from the cybersecurity industry and academia.
