In this digital age, there’s an app for everything including – you guessed it – breastfeeding. Not one, but many apps actually. And while you may think breastfeeding is easy-peasy and why should technology interfere in something so natural, the truth is it’s not always easy for all mums.

So breastfeeding mums, if you need a bit of nursing assistance during those 3am feeds when your only company is your mobile phone, help is just a swipe away!

The app lets you look up a drug and view the possible side effects in relation to breastfeeding. It even suggests alternative drugs for your consideration, when appropriate.

With this app, you’ll feel like you have a breastfeeding expert right by your side, 24-7. No surprise then that it was created by international board-certified lactation consultant Beverly Rae, who is also a mum of five.

This app guides you through every phase of your breastfeeding journey, and is divided into six categories, including preparing for breastfeeding, the first six months of nursing and going back to work. Articles are full of information, helping you solve your nursing issues.

4. Breastmilk Calculator

Developed by Kittie Frantz, a pediatric nurse practitioner and lactation expert with over 40 years of experience, this app tells you exactly how much breast milk a baby is getting from the breast per day and per feeding.

It also suggests how much milk to leave for your baby’s carer, should you need to be away from your baby, how much breast milk baby gets if using a feeding tube at the breast and also changes baby’s weight from pounds/ounces to kilograms and back again.

Taking medication when you’re ill and breastfeeding is cause for concern for many nursing mums. With MommyMeds, you can stop worrying.

Doctors at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center have officially taken the guesswork out of which medicines are okay to take while you’re nursing. They compiled safety ratings on more than 20,000 drugs and OTC meds and made the info searchable by product name or category.

It has loads of helpful tools like a feeding timer which tells you when baby last had a feed and which breast is up for the next feed, a record of how much milk you’ve pumped and a log of dirty and wet diapers. It also helps you keep track of baby’s immunisations and doctor’s appointments.
