In the pictures, Noah's whole body is seen engulfed by the amniotic sac, giving him a strange appearance.

The amniotic sac and its filling provide a liquid that surrounds and cushions the foetus. It allows the foetus to move freely within the walls of the uterus. The amniotic sac also encases both the placenta and the umbilical cord.

In normal circumstances, the sac splits just before birth, which is also known as a woman's waters breaking.

This type of birth, where the infant is born inside the entire amniotic sac, is called an "en-caul" birth. Such births are extremely rare, and are said to be an an almost one-in-90,000 occurrence. They usually do not put the baby or mother at risk.

A baby born en caul will continue to receive oxygen through the placenta, but only for a short amount of time, so doctors will need to puncture the sac soon after birth.

Little Noah is reported to be healthy.

Mummy Monyck has been quoted as saying, "I saw him being born. They lowered the screen so I could see. I cried a lot."

"It's an emotion that has no size."
