Allergies can occur in any individual. In fact, even if both parents have no history of allergies, a child has a 5 to 15% risk of developing an allergy. Allergies can affect a child’s health and take on various forms including atopic dermatitis, asthma, allergic rhinitis and more.

About Dr Liew Woei Kang
Dr Liew obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the National University of Singapore. He then attained his specialist qualifications of Membership to the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (United Kingdom) in 2003. He has been conferred Fellowship by the Academy of Medicine, Singapore and is a member of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology and European Academy of Allergology and Clinical Immunology.
Prior to joining SBCC, Dr Liew held the position of Consultant Paediatrician in the Allergy Service and Rheumatology & Immunology Service, Department of Paediatrics, KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital. He was also Adjunct Assistant Professor in Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School Singapore and Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore. He continues to be a visiting consultant at KK Hospital.
Dr Liew is passionate about medical education and has won a Singhealth Outstanding Young Teacher’s Award in 2007, and the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine Dean’s Award for Teaching Excellence in 2010. He was also awarded the Excellent service award (STAR) in 2007 and Service from the Heart Award in 2010.
Dr Liew is actively involved in patient education and is the President of the Asthma and Allergy Association. He is also an Executive Committee (Exco) member of the Allergy and Clinical Immunology Society of Singapore, and the College of Paediatrics and Child Health.
Common conditions and procedures commonly managed and performed by Dr Liew include allergy disorders such as eczema, food and drug allergy, allergic rhinitis, asthma, food and drug challenges and immunotherapy; immunological disorders like primary immunodeficiencies and evaluation of recurrent infections; and rheumatological disorders such as Kawasaki disease, juvenile idiopathic arthritis and intra-articular joint injections.
