Babies hardly go missing in sewer systems unless it’s a deliberate act by parents who don’t want their baby anymore. But here’s a Russian case where an 18-month-old baby disappeared through the ground with his mum…

2020272 s Sewer system swallows baby boy alive!

In the central city of Bryansk, rescuers were searching for the missing baby in the sewer system — after the baby boy Kirill and his 26-year-old mother fell through the ground when the pavement collapsed unexpectedly without any warning.

It was reported that the mother was taking her child for a walk in a stroller right through the main square of the city when the pavement suddenly gave way and caved in due to a ruptured hot water pipe. It is not like mummy left her child unattended, she was merely taking him for a stroll.

The mother was fortunate enough to be rescued by her policeman husband. She was yanked out of the four-square-meter gaping hole via a rope. Tragically, the baby toppled out of his stroller and disappeared into the opening in the ground—swallowed whole.

The search

According to the RIA Novosti news agency, nearly 70 rescuers had been hunting for the baby, high and low, covering several kilometers of the central sewer system in desperate attempts to find the missing baby. But to everyone’s distress, the effort was to no avail. Then about three miles away, the body of the baby boy was spotted.

It is not uncommon for underground hot water pipes to burst in Russia due to the extreme temperature fluctuations, which causes cracks in the system thus releasing a large amount of blistering steam that causes the pavement above to buckle in and eventually collapse.

Imagine… you are walking your baby one sunny day—without a care in the world…when suddenly the pavement below swallows you and your baby. Seems like a scene from a Hollywood movie, right? But it happened in reality. Treasure every living moment, you’ll never know when your borrowed time will be up.
