Survey Shows Singapore Teens Are Concerned About the Environment

teens and environmentSingapore teens may not be as clueless and apathetic as their parents think they are. A recent survey conducted by the makers of Habbo, a virtual reality world, showed that a lot of them are aware of the environmental issues that the whole world is facing.

Channel News Asia reports that of the 1,100 youth ages 12- 18 included in the survey, 96 percent believe that they have a role to play in saving Mother Earth. About 40 percent claim that they use reusable bags when shopping with their moms and dads and more than half of them said that they recycle often. What is quite surprising is that a huge number of the respondents said that they have already contributed in carbon offset programmes.

While Howard Shaw, Executive Director of the Singapore Environment Council, is quite skeptical about the accuracy of the teens’ claims, he’s definitely pleased about their attitude towards the environment. Currently, there are a few hundred “green clubs” all over Singapore.

Encourage your children to do their part in saving Mother Earth. Help them to practice the 3Rs – reduce, reuse and recycle – in their own little way.
