Study Says: Babies Cry in Their Mother Tongue
Researchers from France and Germany observed the cries of 30 German and 30 French infants that were between two and five days old. The result of the study is interesting.
The tones of the cries of each baby showed a distinct similarity to their mother tongue’s intonation patterns. The researchers say that this is primarily due to the fact that during the last trimester of pregnancy, a fetus is already able to perceive sounds, especially those created by its mother. Experts say that it is the baby’s sense of hearing that develops first.
This study tells us that a mother should start sowing seeds of communication even when her baby is still inside her tummy. Maybe if pregnant mothers talk to their babies often, they might have sons or daughters that are already able to talk even at 1-day old.
